Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached by the Trieux river channel, well buoyed from the Grand Chenal and the Roches Douvres approach. Mud seabed with good holding. The wooded banks give cover all round, best from N and S where the fetch is only the river width, with more open to E and W towards the bends. Mid-channel holds enough water to stay afloat on the lowest springs, so anchor in the middle opposite the house on the south bank; boats lying further upstream can swing into the shallows in gusts. A railway line between Pontrieux and Paimpol runs along the valley and sounds its horn.

Practical

Lezardrieux at 2.6 NM NE, tidal marina with lock-gate pontoons, water, diesel and boatyard. Pontrieux at 2.8 NM S, reached through a lock at the head of the navigable river, with quayside berths in the town centre.

Ashore

Wooded banks of the Trieux, Chateau de la Roche-Jagu standing above the river at around 1 km, a 15th-century fortified manor and garden open to visitors. GR34 coastal path follows the estuary.
