Approach and anchoring
Enter the Gulf of Saint-Florent and steer west-north-west towards Punta di Curza. The small cove lies east of the main Lotu beach. Drop the hook on pale sand in 3 to 6 metres, close in to about 3, with good holding and clear of the protected Posidonia. Anchoring off the rocks between the cove and the main beach avoids the trip-boat and ferry wash and the evening smell off the salt pond behind Lotu. Busy by day with shuttle boats that throw wash, the anchorage clears and calms after about 20:00. Shelter from SW, S and SE, exposed to the tramontane from the north.
Ashore
Free-roaming cows come down to the beach in the morning, and the walk out along the headland opens views over the gulf. The Lotu and Saleccia beaches are reached from Saint-Florent by shuttle boat and by the 12 km Sentier des Douaniers walking track, both inside the Conservatoire du Littoral's Agriates holdings. No shops, no road access for cars. Saleccia is about 5 km west on the coast path.
History
The wider Lotu and Saleccia coast was used as the filming location for the D-Day landing scenes of the 1962 film The Longest Day, shot in Corsica because Normandy had been rebuilt too densely by then.
