Rocky anchorage on the west side of the Cap Corse, in the Golfe de Saint-Florent, 4 nm NW of Saint-Florent.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south from the Golfe de Saint-Florent. Bottom is mostly rock with a large patch of sand in the middle of the cove that gives the best holding, so drop there rather than close inshore, where what looks like sand is white rock. Some rocks also lie to the south. Shelter from W through S to SE, open to the north and exposed to the libeccio from the NW when it rounds the cape. The area is notorious for strong gusts off the Cap Corse ridges.
Practical
No facilities. Saint-Florent marina 4 nm SE takes visitors, with water, electricity and fuel. Port privé Mare e Stagnu is also 4.3 nm SE.
Ashore
Wild shore of the Agriates desert, accessible only by sea or by the long coastal trail from Saint-Florent. Beach of Saleccia and beach of Loto, two of the best-known Corsican beaches, are 4 to 6 km west along the trail. Agriates land is a conservatoire du littoral protected area of 5 500 hectares.
