Buoy field off Cap d'Agde in Hérault, 8 berths on sand. Mooring restricted outside marked buoys.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east along the volcanic basalt coastline of Cap d'Agde. Anchoring outside the buoys is prohibited to protect the Côte Agathoise Natura 2000 zone. The bottom is sand with some flat stone slabs, holding well in about 4 to 5 metres. Exposed from W to N, and it is a busy dive site with heavy speedboat and jet-ski traffic, so keep a lookout for divers' bubbles. Poorly protected, so use it only in calm weather.
Practical
8 buoys for daytime use only, no overnight stay, with a 5 knot speed limit in the zone; read the maximum size marked on each buoy before picking one up. No services on site. Cercle Nautique 0.4 NM NW and Cap d'Agde marina 0.5 NM NW for fuel, water and shore facilities.
Ashore
Cap d'Agde town centre around the Môle reachable on foot from the Cercle Nautique, with shops, restaurants and the Musée de l'Éphèbe showing Greek and Roman underwater finds from the Hérault estuary. Plage de la Grande Conque, black volcanic sand, about 1 km west.
