Approach and anchoring

Reached by the Canal des Vosges, formerly called Canal de l'Est branche Sud. Speed limited to 6 km/h. Standard Freycinet gauge applies: locks of 38.5 by 5.05 metres, air draught around 3.5 metres, maximum draught about 1.8 metres. Locks on this section are automated.

Practical

Concrete quay with mooring rings and over 2 metres alongside, shaded and quiet. No power or water on the quay itself; a water tap is on the far side of the river by the picnic and cycle stop. An Intermarché and a fuel station are about 500 metres away, a bakery closer and a pizzeria about 250 metres. Village of Nomexy adjoins the canal. Next halts are Charmes 5.4 NM to the NW and the mooring known as Stone Wall 4 NM to the NW.

Ashore

Village centre of Nomexy within walking distance of the canal, with basic shops. Voie verte des hautes vosges cycle path follows the canal, linking Épinal around 12 km to the south and Charmes about 10 km to the north.

History

Nomexy grew as a textile town in the 19th century around a cotton-spinning mill founded in 1822 by the Gos family, one of the largest in Lorraine before the industry declined in the 20th century.
