Simple mooring on the Canal des Vosges at Golbey, immediately upstream of lock 9, on the approach to Epinal.

Approach and anchoring

Freycinet canal, locks of 38.5 m operated by VNF remote control. Lock 9 part of the descending flight towards the Moselle. Draught limited to 1.80 m, air draught 3.50 m at the bridges. No current.

Practical

A long timber-lined quay with only a few mooring rings hidden in the grass, so bring lines and be ready to drive stakes. No marina services. Water point at the lock on request. A large Leclerc hypermarket is 800 m away, full facilities at the Port de plaisance d'Epinal 1.1 km south-east.

History

The Canal des Vosges, formerly known as the Canal de l'Est branche sud, was opened in 1882 to link the Moselle at Epinal with the Saône at Corre after the annexation of Alsace-Moselle cut off the through-route to Strasbourg.
