Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east, drop the hook on sand clear of the weed patches in 4 to 8 m. The cove is open to E and SE winds, and a roll often works in at night from the wash of passing ferries and ships. Macinaggio lies 1.7 nm to the north, Santa Severa and Marina de Luri 2.8 nm to the south.
Practical
Shelter from NW, W and SW winds, better than nearby Macinaggio when it blows from the west. Holding is good on sand but poor on weed, so back down to check the set. A small concrete mole at one end of the beach makes a landing for the dinghy. No fuel berth, nearest at Macinaggio.
Ashore
The beach restaurant La Paillote serves good meals and runs a tender out to the boats. Tour de Meria, a Genoese watchtower of the 16th century, stands on the headland south of the cove, and the Sentier des Douaniers passes along the coast above the bay from Macinaggio to Centuri. The inland village of Meria lies about 3 km uphill with no shops or bar. A small craft market of charcuterie, cheese and honey is held on Wednesday mornings.
History
Meria belongs to the chain of Genoese coastal towers built along the Corsican shore during the 16th and 17th centuries to warn of Barbary raids.
