Guide

Approach and anchoring

Reached by sailing up the Odet from the Bénodet entrance. The river runs deep in the main channel but shoals quickly on the banks, so stay mid-channel. The tidal stream runs hard here; the mud holds well but veer enough chain, and wind against tide can raise a chop across the wider reach. Port du Corniguel is 1.7 NM north and Pors Keraign 2.6 NM southwest for secondary shelter.

Practical

Forain anchorage on mud with good holding, no facilities on the mooring. Corniguel on the outskirts of Quimper offers pontoon berths and basic services.

Ashore

Land by climbing the rough dock used by anglers and tie the dinghy on a long line, or use the old cobbled slipway 50 m downstream of the abandoned white house. With a decent outboard it is about 20 minutes by dinghy up to Quimper, tying near the stone steps in the town centre, minding the bridges and working out the tide for the return. Small rias nearby can be explored by kayak or paddleboard, some drying out at low water.
