Approach and anchoring
Enter the Odet between the Pointe de Mousterlin and the Pointe de Combrit. Cross-channel current on the ebb, up to 3 knots, best avoid arriving at mid-tide. The channel is buoyed and lit. VHF 9. Well sheltered inside the river, though the chain-moored pontoons snatch and roll when a southerly swell works up the estuary.
Practical
420 buoys and pontoon berths on sand. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Capitainerie on the quay, easier reached by phone than on the busy VHF, a mooring buoy runs about 25 euros a night. Fuel at Bénodet on the opposite bank, 0.2 NM NE. Passenger ferry links both banks in season.
Ashore
Sainte-Marine village 200 m from the port, with bakery, bar and the Abri du Marin, a former sailors' refuge built in 1909 now housing exhibitions. The crêperie Papa Crêpes at Combrit is a good, inexpensive table for galettes. Pont de Cornouaille 500 m upstream crosses to Bénodet. Sentier côtier south to the Pointe de Combrit with its 1862 lighthouse, about 1.5 km.
History
The Abri du Marin at Sainte-Marine is one of a network of thirteen shelters founded by Jacques de Thézac from 1900 to support Breton sardine fishermen between voyages.
