Approach and anchoring

Access through a buoyed channel across the foreshore, which dries at low water; the entrance can be lively with rollers over the shoals before it calms behind the breakwater. Entry limited to 2 h before and after high water, over a sill of about 1.8 m, leaving the yellow pole to starboard. A sandbank tends to build by the red perch on the starboard hand, and the current runs hard even late in the tide. Max draught 2 m in the basin. VHF channel 9.

Practical

300 berths on pontoons with water and electricity, but no fuel. The harbour office tends to close around 5 pm. Restaurant and snack at the port in season. Note a nightclub a few hundred metres away, which plays loud music into the early hours in July and August. No shops on site; nearest grocery and bakery at La Boirie village 1.2 km, with a market at La Brée-les-Bains about a 10-minute bike ride away.

Ashore

Plage des Sables Vignier accessible by coastal path at 1.5 km. Phare de Chassiron at the northern tip of Oléron, 46 m high, built in 1836, at 6 km by road. Cycle path Vélodyssée crosses the area.
