Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the Pertuis d'Antioche, keeping clear of the rocky ledges off Pointe de Chassiron to the west. Four mooring buoys lie off the sand, with room to anchor as well in 3 to 5 metres at low water. Holding on clean sand is reliable, but the spot is open to the north and east and turns rough with any swell, so watch the forecast. Boats also lie near the Saint-Denis entrance channel as a waiting berth before the gate opens; the channel is unlit at night. VHF 9 for the harbour.
Practical
No services on site; the four mooring buoys are chargeable and there is room to anchor free alongside. Saint-Denis-d'Oléron marina lies 0.4 nm west with water, fuel and shops. Le Douhet is 2.8 nm to the southeast as an alternative refuge.
Ashore
Plage des Huttes stretches east of the anchorage with direct beach landing by tender. Village of Saint-Denis-d'Oléron 0.4 nm west has a morning market, bakery and grocery. Phare de Chassiron, the 46 m tall striped lighthouse open to visitors, stands 2 km west of the village.
