Approach and anchoring
Access through the Perrotine channel, well buoyed. The lock opens automatically once the water reaches about 2.2 m, roughly HW plus or minus 2h30, day and night. If the basin gates are still shut, wait at the reception pontoon on the starboard side behind the harbour office; visitors then berth just after the lock on starboard. There is little room to manoeuvre once inside, and the basin can silt, so check the depth before committing. Strong tidal currents run in the Pertuis d'Antioche outside the channel. Max draught 2.2 m. VHF 9.
Practical
180 berths in the wet basin. Diesel at the fuel berth. Water and electricity on the pontoons. The harbour team takes calls on VHF 9 and mobile, reserves a berth and helps boats moor, though staff are mainly present around lock openings; the contact email is port-boyardville@charente-maritime.fr. A market runs every morning, with a bakery, mini-market, ATM and bike rental, and the restaurant Les Bains stays open year-round. Passenger ferries to Fort Boyard and Ile d'Aix, and a free shuttle to tour the island.
Ashore
Foret domaniale des Saumonards pine forest starts at the port, with marked trails and a beach on the north side at 600 m. The Fort Boyer oyster-farming site is a walk of under 1 km from the harbour. Fort Boyard, built 1804 to 1857, visible 5 km offshore, no landing allowed. Village of Saint-Georges-d'Oleron 4 km inland.
