Guide

Approach and anchoring

Sheltered from W, SW and S by the island. Open to the north and east, with no shelter if the wind turns onshore. Sand bottom. The Pertuis d'Antioche runs north-south off the anchorage with strong tidal streams. Keep a safe distance from Fort Boyard and its rocky base to the east. Close to the beach, avoid the fish farm whose floats cover at high water, the unmarked cables running between it and the shore, and the rock reefs that show only at low water.

Practical

Forain anchorage, no facilities. Tender landing on the beach, watching for the rock reefs off it that cover at high water. Boyardville 1.7 NM to the SE with marina, fuel, water, shops and restaurants.

Ashore

Forêt domaniale des Saumonards, 855 hectares of maritime pines, with marked paths leading to Boyardville and to Saint-Georges-d'Oléron. Cycle route on the forest track running the length of the island. Fort Boyard is visible from the beach, 3 km offshore, built between 1804 and 1866.
