Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sand bottom, sheltered from north through east to south-east, open to the south and west. The swell of the Saint Lucia Channel works in when the wind goes south of east. The coast from Pointe Dunkerque to Pointe Coton, 2,273 hectares including 1,094 hectares of sea, has been a classified site since a decree of 22 August 2013.
Practical
Land the dinghy on the beach. No buoys or pontoon. Supplies are in Sainte-Anne, about 2 miles north by sea.
Ashore
Marked trails lead to the Étang des Salines, a wetland used by herons, egrets, sandpipers and plovers, and to the Savane des Pétrifications, a bare volcanic landscape. Sea turtles nest on the beaches of the site.
