Approach and anchoring

Anchor on sand and mud in 2.5 to 4.5 m, with room to swing. One boat held through 40 kn westerlies in 2023, while another dragged in 35 to 38 kn the same summer. The sand near Portisco marina holds better than the mud and weed. Submarine cables cross the bay and have fouled anchors. Watch for shallow sandbars. Motor boats pass at speed by day, and traffic eases after 20:00.

Practical

Portisco marina next door, on VHF 9, had space in strong winds in 2023 at a high price. In 2022 tenders were left free of charge at the nearby marinas. A tender can also lie beside the diving school. Around the IGY Portisco marina are restaurants, bars and a small supermarket, and rubbish can be left there. A bus runs to Olbia from the IGY port. The shore road is noisy by day.

Ashore

Marina Cala dei Sardi serves drinks and meals on a lawn with deckchairs. Su Cubone in Portisco village serves Sardinian food, and booking ahead was advised in 2021. Porto Rotondo is a walk from a tender landing on the far side of the bay.
