Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the south across the open bay between the Cap Cavalaire and the Cap Lardier. Buoy field laid off the main beach, west of the marina entrance. Sheltered from N, NW, W and SW winds by the hills of the Maures massif. Exposed to E and SE swell, and the buoys roll in any of it. Out of season the buoys are lifted, and boats can then anchor in about 5 metres on sand outside the field, watching for the mooring blocks and chains left on the bottom. VHF 9.
Practical
85 buoys rated by size, bookable through the Bord a Bord platform, around 25 to 30 euros for a 12 m boat and more for a multihull, with a discount for a holding tank. Water on the buoys. Staff help pick up the buoy and a marina launch ferries crews ashore and back. Buoys are seasonal rentals let one night at a time, so a boat may be moved on if the holder returns. Tender landing at the marina of Cavalaire 0.2 NM to the south, with fuel, shops and capitainerie; bar music runs late in season. Marines de Cogolin 5.9 NM to the north.
Ashore
Sandy beach of Cavalaire along 2 km of seafront, immediately behind the buoy field. Sentier du littoral to Cap Lardier inside the Conservatoire du littoral estate of the Domaine du Cap Lardier, trailhead 2 km east of the port.
History
Cavalaire was one of the landing beaches of Operation Dragoon on 15 August 1944. The 3rd US Infantry Division came ashore on Alpha Red sector on the Cavalaire beach at dawn. A stele on the seafront marks the event.
