Guide
Approach and anchoring
Marina below the citadel in Calvi bay, VHF 9, usable day and night. Berth stern-to, picking up a lazy-line at the bow; the harbour staff come out by tender to guide arrivals and take lines, which helps when the wind, often the mistral, funnels into the basin. Draught up to 6 m, vessels to 135 m, multihulls accepted. Moorings outside the harbour are a cheaper option after a crossing, but not in strong wind, when the marina is far more comfortable.
Practical
Book through the Smart Water app, with a 50 per cent deposit online and the balance at the harbour office; the system takes some getting used to. Rates are reasonable for Corsica, around 54 euros for a 12 m boat and 94 euros for 15 m in June. Showers and toilets are code-locked and shut overnight. A large Super U sits on the road behind the marina and there is a chandler on site. Refuse points are few and hard to find.
Ashore
The old town and its Genoese citadel rise above the marina, with shops and restaurants lining the quays; the quayside bars are lively and loud into the small hours, so a berth away from them makes for a quieter night. A steep 45-minute walk climbs to the Notre-Dame de la Serra chapel for a wide view over the bay. A scenic railway runs along the coast to L'Île-Rousse, and a sand beach backed by pine woods lies along the bay.
