Approach and anchoring

Approach from the north or east with no off-lying dangers in the open water. The bay is narrow and deep, dropping away fast, with the sand mainly in the centre and at the head in about 8 to 13 m and room for only a handful of boats, as most of the cove is posidonia; pick a sandy patch and check the set. Shelter is very good from N round through NE to E, even in strong winds, but a gale from the NE can set up a swirling eddy that swings a boat through 180 degrees, and a SW builds waves quickly and funnels around the Revellata.

Practical

No facilities on the spot. Calvi marina lies 1.9 NM east for fuel, water and provisioning, and Port Eugène Ceccaldi at L'Île-Rousse is 5.3 NM further east.

Ashore

The Pointe de la Revellata lighthouse stands on the peninsula closing the bay to the west. Sea caves lie 200 to 300 m to the south, among them the Grotta dei Vecchi Marinai, which can be visited by dinghy. Calvi citadel, built by the Genoese from 1483, is reached in about 30 minutes by dinghy plus a short walk along the quay, or by a steep path up to the coastal path in about 2h30 on foot.
