Upper Seine and the Loing: Paris to Moret-sur-Loing

Upstream of the Arsenal, the Seine climbs towards Melun and the Fontainebleau forest through seven locks, from Port-à-l'Anglais to Champagne-sur-Seine. They are large commercial chambers, shared with barges and push tows. Port aux Cerises at Draveil, Le Mée-sur-Seine on the edge of Melun and Chartrettes are the lower stops, the Fontainebleau yacht club the upper one. Saint-Mammès, an old barge port where the Loing joins, has a 120 metre quay and a halt. The Loing canal starts there and runs 47.8 km to Buges, past Moret and Nemours, on the way to the Briare canal.
