Marina of 177 berths in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, between Place de la Bastille and the Seine.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the Seine at the downstream end via a lock at the foot of Place de la Bastille. Lock operates on request, VHF 9, and is often unmanned, which can be slow when several boats share a cycle. The current on the Seine just outside the lock can run hard, so line up the approach with care. Max draught 1.9 m. Upstream, the basin connects to the Canal Saint-Martin through another lock.
Practical
177 berths managed by the Mairie de Paris. Water and electricity on the pontoons. Toilets, showers and a laundry ashore. The reception sells fluviacartes as well as butane canisters and adapters. The basin is open to the public by day and closes at night behind key-code gates, with security patrols. A restaurant stands at one end of the port. Metro Bastille lines 1, 5 and 8 at the top of the basin.
Ashore
Place de la Bastille and the July Column at the northern end, 100 m from the basin. Opéra Bastille alongside the square. Marché d'Aligre covered and open-air market on rue d'Aligre, 600 m south. Le Marais district across the Seine, 15 minutes on foot.
History
The basin was built between 1806 and 1825 under Napoleon, linking the Seine to the Canal Saint-Martin to supply Paris with drinking water and goods. It stands on the site of the Bastille fortress, demolished in 1789.
Story
The lock gates open directly beneath Place de la Bastille, passing under the traffic of Boulevard de la Bastille before emerging into the Seine.
