Garonne and Dordogne: Pauillac to Bordeaux and Libourne
16 places · Gironde
Above Pauillac the estuary narrows to the Bec d'Ambès, where the Garonne and the Dordogne meet. Go up on the flood and moor bow to the stream with doubled lines: that is the rule at the Blaye pontoon, below the citadel, where stays are limited to 24 hours. Pauillac is only accessible around high water, for drafts up to 1.5 m, and Bourg from half flood. In Bordeaux the wet docks open only at high water, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. On the Dordogne, the tidal bore runs up to Saint-Pardon, just below Libourne, on big spring tides.
