City-centre marina on the Garonne river in Bordeaux, 278 berths, max draught 2.5 m, VHF 12.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Access via the Gironde estuary and the Garonne, roughly 50 nautical miles from the mouth. The current runs strong, up to 3 knots on the ebb, and there is less of it at the reception pontoon than off the Cité du Vin. Entry is through the lock into the Bassin à Flot n 2, which only works around high water; request permission about 24 hours ahead and allow roughly an hour to lock in or out. Call the capitainerie on VHF 12 before arrival.
Practical
278 pontoon berths in a floating basin, with water, electricity, showers and Wi-Fi but no laundry and no fuel berth on site. A night runs about 12 to 20 euros with water and electricity included. Tram line B stops 200 m from the pontoons and reaches the full city centre in 10 minutes.
Ashore
La Cité du Vin wine museum at 400 m on the quay, with a sound-and-light show in the old submarine base nearby. The UNESCO-listed Port de la Lune waterfront stretches 2 km south along the Garonne, with the Place de la Bourse and its water mirror at 2.5 km. Les Halles de Bacalan covered market lies 300 m away.
History
The Port de la Lune, the crescent-shaped bend of the Garonne through Bordeaux, has been listed by UNESCO since 2007 as an outstanding urban and port ensemble of the 18th century.
