Small tidal port on the right bank of the Gironde estuary at Gauriac, 6 km downstream of Bourg, in the Côtes de Bourg wine area.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Entry from the main estuary channel at high water. Strong tidal streams up to 3 knots on the flood. The bottom is mud and the port dries partially at low water springs, so access depends on the tide. No night entry, no channel lights. A launching slipway lies 100 metres to the south.
Practical
About 25 berths on wooden pontoons, managed locally. Water on the pontoon. No diesel, no chandlery on site. Small shops at Bourg, 6 km by road, larger shopping at Blaye, 5 km upstream.
Ashore
Côtes de Bourg AOC vineyards start immediately behind the port, cellars of Gauriac and Bayon-sur-Gironde open to visitors on signposted routes. The village holds an eel festival in early May. Troglodyte cliff dwellings cut into the limestone along the road towards Bourg. GR 655 pilgrim route runs along the corniche above the river.
