Anchorage on the Wye River in Maryland, off the Wye Heights estate, on the Chesapeake Bay Eastern Shore.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
The Wye is a quiet tributary winding through Eastern Shore farmland with five to six feet of water along much of its course. The bottom is mud with good holding, and this reach is sheltered from most wind directions. Deep water carries past Wye Heights up to the marine facilities at Wye Landing.
Ashore
The Wye River encircles Wye Island, a 2,800-acre state wildlife and recreation area with walking trails and farm fields. Miles River Yacht Club lies about 6.8 miles south-west, toward St. Michaels.
