Approach and anchoring

Enter the West River from Chesapeake Bay between Curtis Point and Chalk Point, then run west past Galesville. The marina sits on Woods Wharf Road, accessed via the creek north of Shady Side. The West River is well buoyed but shoals in places, so favour the channel markers.

Practical

About 50 in-water berths from 14 to 60 feet plus dry storage with a small lift for boats up to 32 feet. Repair services on site. Restrooms with showers, picnic and barbecue area, kayaks and paddle boards available for guests. Dockmaster lives on the premises. Shops and restaurants in Shady Side within walking distance.

Ashore

Hartge Yacht Harbor sits 1.6 NM west and Pirates Cove restaurant at Galesville is 1.3 NM across the river by tender. The Captain Salem Avery Museum on Shady Side Road documents West River watermen and is a 15-minute walk.
