Guide
Approach and anchoring
Sellman Creek runs off the Rhode River, itself a tributary of the West River. The creek is well sheltered but only wide enough for one boat across, so swinging room is tight. Holding is good in about 8 ft over soft mud, with protection from wind and current on most sides. Rhode River Marina lies 0.4 nm to the east and Harmony Marina 0.5 nm to the east.
Practical
Fresh water is available ashore at the marinas. There is no commercial access from the creek itself. The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center owns much of the south shore of the Rhode River and marks scientific equipment with buoys and stakes, so keep clear.
Ashore
By tender, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center on the Rhode River has waterfront trails and exhibits on the Chesapeake Bay. Rhode River Marina and Harmony Marina, both about half a mile east, are the nearest points for supplies.
