Family-run marina on Whitemarsh Creek, a side creek off the Rhode River near Edgewater, Maryland, about 20 minutes by water from Annapolis.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Whitemarsh Creek branches off the south side of the Rhode River, which itself opens onto Chesapeake Bay. Approach depth is around 7 feet and the slips carry about 5 feet at mean low water. The basin is well sheltered and is used locally as a hurricane hole.
Practical
Three finger piers hold 145 berths for vessels from 22 to 60 feet, multihulls included. There is a fuel berth on site, plus bathhouses and laundry. The yard runs as a do-it-yourself operation, with slip and dry storage priced below the Annapolis marinas. Liveaboards are accepted.
Ashore
The entire south shore of the Rhode River belongs to the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, a 2,650-acre research reserve of woodland and tidal marsh kept clear of development, with public trails.
History
The marina has been owned and worked by the same family since 1972.
