Approach and anchoring

An open anchorage on a sand and rock bottom, sheltered from N through E by the island but fully exposed to the south swell. Holding is uneven where coral and rock break the sand. State rules prohibit anchoring close inshore off Waikiki, and the trade-wind chop builds quickly here, so most crews treat it as a daytime stop only.

Practical

No facilities on this stretch of coast. Fresh water, fuel, berths and the harbour master are at Ala Wai Boat Harbor, 1.1 nm to the NW, which takes vessels up to about 26 metres. The Hawaii Yacht Club lies alongside it. Both are reached through the marked harbour entrance west of the beach.

Ashore

Waikiki's hotel and shopping district fronts the beach directly. The Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park sit at the eastern end below Diamond Head, whose crater rim carries a marked trail to a 232 metre summit lookout.
