Approach and anchoring
South coast of Oahu, west of Ala Moana Beach Park and east of Honolulu Harbor. Entered from the Mamala Bay approach through the dredged Kewalo Channel. VHF 16.
Practical
Berths from 30 to 100 feet. Shore power at every pedestal: 30A for berths under 60 feet, 50A for larger berths. Water on the docks, vehicle parking and toilets for tenants and their guests. Access is restricted to tenants and accompanied visitors. Transient dockage from 16 USD per night, long-term moorage around 12 USD per linear foot per month.
History
The site was known to Hawaiians as the fishery of Kukuluaeo and served as an anchorage long before contact. Dredging of the channel began in 1924 and the wharf was completed in 1926. From the 1920s the basin was the home port of the sampan fleet that landed aku and ahi for the Honolulu fish auction, with more than 450 sampans registered in the territory by 1940.
