Approach and anchoring
Enter Ala Wai Harbor through the channel south of Magic Island, behind the 1967 breakwater. Waikiki Yacht Club lies 0.1 nm north-east on the opposite side of the harbour.
Practical
Member berths in front of the clubhouse plus reciprocal moorings for visiting yachts from affiliated clubs. Restaurant and bar open to members. Ala Wai Boat Harbor itself, run by the State of Hawaii, surrounds the club.
Ashore
Ala Moana Beach Park is 400 m east across the canal. Ala Moana Center shopping mall sits 700 m north. Waikiki Beach starts about 1 km east.
History
Founded in 1901, with formal charter granted by Prince Kuhio and Prince David, ten years after the death of King Kalakaua, who had initiated yachting at Pearl Harbor. Relocated to Ala Wai after 1935 dredging works. Current clubhouse built in 1959 and extended in 1965.
