Approach and anchoring

Canal du Midi navigation, maximum draught 1,40 m and air clearance 3,00 m under the bridges. Standard VNF locks operated during canal hours. Speed limit 8 km/h on the canal. No tides.

Quayside mooring along the village, with water and electricity bollards. Capitainerie on the quay. Boatyard and rental bases within the village. Bakery, grocery and restaurants at under 300 m. Train station of Villeneuve-lès-Béziers at 800 m with services to Béziers and Montpellier.

Ashore

Fonseranes lock staircase, nine chambers raising boats 21,5 m, at about 5 km by the towpath or cycle route. Cathédrale Saint-Nazaire of Béziers on its rocky spur at 6 km. Mediterranean beaches of Sérignan and Valras at around 10 km.

History

The Canal du Midi was opened in 1681 under Pierre-Paul Riquet and links the Garonne to the Mediterranean. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1996 for its engineering and integration with the landscape.
