Approach and anchoring
Approach from seaward via the Orb estuary bar, which silts after storms. Dredged channel marked by lateral buoys. Maximum draught 1,7 m, cross the bar near high water with settled weather. VHF 9. Strong outflow on the Orb after heavy rain.
Practical
350 berths with water and electricity. Fuel station on site. Capitainerie by the main pontoon. Supermarket, bakeries and restaurants along the seafront within 400 m. Saturday morning market on allées Charles de Gaulle.
Ashore
Sand beach of Valras-Plage runs for 3 km west of the port, Blue Flag for water quality. Béziers and its Pont-Vieux over the Orb at 15 km inland, with the Canal du Midi listed by UNESCO. Sérignan natural reserve of the embouchure de l'Orb at 2 km north, protected dunes and lagoon birdlife.
History
Valras-Plage was the sea resort of Béziers from the 19th century, originally a simple fishing hamlet. It became an independent commune in 1931 after decades of resort development on the sand bar at the mouth of the Orb.
