Approach and anchoring
Approach from seaward keeping clear of the rocky foreshore. Bottom is sand, rock and posidonia: pick a sand patch or take a mooring buoy to protect the seagrass. Sheltered from NW through N to W. Tramontane from the NW can funnel down the coast with little warning.
Practical
Eco-moorings managed by the Réserve naturelle marine de Cerbère-Banyuls, anchoring on posidonia prohibited. Port-Vendres 1.1 NM NW for fuel, water and commerce. Banyuls 1.7 NM south.
Ashore
Sentier du littoral passes directly above the cove, linking Port-Vendres to Banyuls in about 4 km. Vineyards of the AOC Banyuls and Collioure rise from the cliffs.
History
The Cerbère-Banyuls reserve, created in 1974, was the first marine reserve in metropolitan France.
