Approach and anchoring

Approach close inshore from either Port-Vendres to the south or Collioure to the west. Drop on sand patches between rock and posidonia in 5 to 10 metres, setting the anchor by swim to avoid dragging on weed. Sheltered from SW and W, open to the tramontane from the north and to the easterly swell which closes the anchorage.

Practical

No services. Port-Vendres 0.4 NM south with commercial quay, fuel berth and full shore supplies. Collioure 1 NM west for visitor moorings off the Château Royal and the village.

Ashore

Sentier du littoral from Port-Vendres to Collioure passes above the cove and links the two villages in about an hour on foot. Fort Saint-Elme above the ridge was built under Charles V in the 16th century and is open to visitors. Collioure is known for its anchovy salting tradition and for the Fauvist painters Matisse and Derain who worked there in 1905.
