- Type
- Harbour
University-run boating centre on FF Dock inside Santa Cruz Harbour, used by UCSC students and Santa Cruz residents for sailing, rowing and kayaking on Monterey Bay.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Inside Santa Cruz Harbour, on the south basin near the entrance. The harbour mouth is prone to shoaling from littoral drift along the west jetty and is dredged between 1 November and 1 May each season. Breaking waves can form at the entrance in winter swells.
Practical
Teaching base, not a transient marina. No fuel, no visitor berths. Programmes include junior summer camps, adult community classes for anyone over 17, and quarterly courses for UCSC students. Lessons begin inside the harbour, then move out to Monterey Bay.
History
Started in 1971 by Dick Murray to open aquatic activities to the wider Santa Cruz community.
