Guide
Approach and anchoring
The anchorage lies near buoy 21, about 20 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and 30 miles south of the C&D Canal. It gives shelter from north-east through south-east winds but stays open to the west across the open bay. The bottom is sand and mud, which holds well once the anchor is set.
Practical
Tolchester Marina lies about 0.3 miles south, with over 260 berths, shore power, a travel lift and mechanical repairs. Fresh water is available. The marina has a bathhouse, a laundry, a seasonal restaurant and a beach bar. Safe Harbor Great Oak Landing is about 3.4 miles north-east.
Ashore
A half-mile sand beach fronts the marina. The site was once Tolchester Beach amusement park, which drew steamboat day trippers from Baltimore between 1877 and 1962.
