Small harbour of 85 berths on the south-west coast of Corsica, in the Gulf of Valinco sector, sheltered behind the Cala di Conca headland.

Guide

Approach and anchoring

Shallow entrance with a maximum draught of 1.1 m, suitable for small craft only. Approach from the south-west, keeping clear of the rocky shoals off Punta di Campomoro to the north. No night lighting on the inner basin. Call the harbour office on VHF 9 before entering.

Practical

85 berths, mostly occupied by local fishing boats and small motorboats. Limited visitor capacity in summer. Water on the quay. No fuel station at the port. Village shops and a few restaurants within 300 m of the quay.

Ashore

Tour genoise de Campomoro, the largest Genoese coastal tower in Corsica built in 1586, stands 7 km by road to the north. The Tizzano prehistoric site of Cauria, with its alignments of menhirs and the Dolmen de Fontanaccia, lies 6 km inland.

History

The hamlet grew around a former tuna fishery active until the 1960s. The Genoese built a watchtower above the cove in the 16th century as part of the coastal defence line against Barbary raids.
