Archipelago of pink-granite islands and rocky outcrops in Long Island Sound, off Stony Creek in Branford, Connecticut.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east or west through the marked channels and stay within them. The tidal range is about 6 feet, so many rocks cover and uncover; passages between the islands narrow and dry at low water. Pine Orchard Yacht Club lies 0.9 mile north-west, Sachem's Head Yacht Club 2.3 miles east.
Practical
An anchorage among the islands with a mud bottom and no transient moorings or visitor berths at Stony Creek. Sheltered from north through east and to the south, more open to the west.
Story
On one August day in 1910, around 50 yachts from three New York clubs lay at anchor among the Thimble Islands at once.
