Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter from Florida Bay watching the depth, as the basin averages only about 10 feet. The sand bottom holds well once the anchor is set, and the basin gives all-round shelter from wind. In strong blows the water can stay choppy, and boats have dragged ashore here, so check the set carefully.
Practical
Fresh water is available. The NOAA dock at Key Largo and La Presta both lie 1.9 nm to the south. The anchorage is much used as a staging point while waiting for a weather window to cross to the Bahamas or run down the Keys.
