Approach and anchoring
Enter Sherman Lake from the San Joaquin River through the breached levees south-west of Sherman Island. Tidal but with limited range. Shallow throughout, watch for old levee remnants and submerged tules. Wind picks up sharply in the afternoon from the west.

Lower Sherman Island Wildlife Area, 3,100 acres of tidal marsh open for waterfowl hunting and birdwatching. Sherman Island County Park 6 km north on the levee road, one of the top windsurfing and kiteboarding sites in the United States.
