Guide
Approach and anchoring
Approach the cove from the west and north, leaving Ellingwood Rock to starboard and aiming for the centre of the cove. Anchoring is prohibited because of submarine power cables, so a buoy must be used. The cove is open from south-west through south-east, and the moorings are exposed in a swell, so choose settled weather.
Practical
Five first-come moorings sit in the cove, maintained by the Friends of Seguin Island Light Station, plus one Coast Guard buoy not for general use. No facilities ashore. Southport Yacht Club lies 7.3 nautical miles to the north-east and Hodgdon Yacht Services 8 nautical miles in the same direction.
Ashore
A path and a steep tramway climb from the cove to the light station. The lighthouse keeps the only first-order Fresnel lens still working north of Cape Hatteras. A small museum run by the Friends and an island trail network are open to visitors in season.
History
Seguin Light was first commissioned in 1795 under George Washington, making it one of the oldest light stations in Maine. The current granite tower and keeper's house date from 1857.
