Guide

Approach and anchoring

Approach from the south between Squirrel Island and Spruce Point, then into the inner harbour past Tumbler Island. The bottom is mud and holding is fair. Shelter runs from north-west round to south-east, leaving the anchorage open to the south. In summer the harbour fills with fishing and pleasure craft, many left unlit at night, so keep a careful watch when entering after dark.

Practical

Town anchoring is restricted, so check current harbour regulations before dropping the hook. Signal Point Marina and Hodgdon Marina lie about 0.2 nm to the north and hold transient moorings. The village waterfront has provisions, chandlery and restaurants within easy reach by tender.

Ashore

The footbridge across the harbour, one of the longest wooden pedestrian bridges in the United States, links the two sides of the village. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens sit about 2 nm north by road. Boat trips to Eastern Egg Rock for puffin watching leave from the town piers.
