Approach and anchoring

Sarah Creek opens off the south bank of the York River. The mud bottom gives good holding and the creek is sheltered from every quadrant, which makes it a recognised hurricane hole. The wide, deep York River lies about ten minutes' motoring away, with the open Chesapeake a short run to the east.

Practical

Fresh water is available. York River Yacht Haven sits at the mouth of the creek with a deep-water fuel berth, haul-out yard, showers and laundry. Gloucester Point Marina lies 0.7 nm to the NW.

Ashore

Yorktown, the site of the 1781 siege that ended the American Revolutionary War, lies across the river and is reached by ferry. Its battlefield and waterfront are managed by the National Park Service.
