Member-owned sailing club founded in 1932 on the south shore of Sandusky Bay, Lake Erie, adjacent to Battery Park Marina in Ohio.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Enter Sandusky Bay from Lake Erie between Cedar Point to the east and Marblehead Peninsula to the west. The club docks lie immediately east of Battery Park Marina, inside the breakwater. Bay is shallow, typical depths of 3 to 4 metres in the marked channel. Watch for shoaling outside the channel and for the Cedar Point ferry traffic.
Practical
Club docks reserved for members and reciprocal yacht club guests. Sanitaires, clubhouse, hoist for dinghies and small keelboats. Provisions and fuel berth at the adjacent Oasis Marinas at Battery Park, 200 metres to the north-west. Town centre and Jackson Street Pier at 1.5 km.
Ashore
Battery Park itself runs along the waterfront with a public walking path. Cedar Point amusement park is 4 km east across the bay, reachable by ferry in summer. Merry-Go-Round Museum and Sandusky's restored downtown are at 1.5 km. Lake Erie Islands ferries to Kelleys and Put-in-Bay depart from Marblehead, 12 km west by road.
History
The club was founded in 1932 by a group of Battery Park sailors after the city raised marina fees from 25 cents to 60 cents per foot. The first clubhouse was a one-room shack built on leased city land in 1933. The club has hosted regattas and youth sailing programmes continuously since.
