Approach and anchoring
Entered from Lake Michigan through the Burns Waterway breakwaters, then a short run upriver. The harbour holds boats up to about 45ft. The lake entrance is exposed to northerly winds.
Practical
Seasonal and transient berths, launching ramps for daily use, and a store with boating supplies, ice and provisions. Restrooms ashore, with a handicap lift. Picnic tables and charcoal grills on the marina grounds.
Ashore
Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk runs to the Lake Michigan beach beside the marina, within Indiana Dunes National Park. The park's dune trails and wetland boardwalks start from the lakefront, a few minutes' walk from the berths.
History
The harbour opened in 1996 as the Portage Public Marina, funded through the Lake Michigan Marina Development Commission. It was renamed in 2016 for former Portage mayor Sammie L. Maletta.
