Members' yacht club marina on Burns Waterway at Portage, Indiana, with floating-dock access to Lake Michigan.
Guide
Approach and anchoring
Reached from Lake Michigan through the Burns Waterway breakwaters, then upriver past the Portage public marina. The waterway is sheltered, so the approach holds in most conditions, but the lake entrance is exposed to northerly winds and short steep seas.
Practical
Berths for boats up to 50ft, plus floating platforms for PWC and tenders. There is a fuel berth with petrol and a pump-out. Showers ashore. The club bar and restaurant open to the public on Fridays.
History
The club has operated on Burns Waterway since 1955.
