Approach and anchoring
The inlet lies roughly 16 miles inside the Chesapeake Bay entrance, with no bridges or locks on the way in. The channel is dredged to about 2.1 metres at low water, though a shoal of around 1.8 metres has formed between markers R-6 and G-5. Maximum draught 2 metres.
Practical
Fuel berth available. Southall Landings Marina is 0.2 mile to the south-west and Salt Ponds Marina Resort 0.4 mile to the south, both taking visitors. A useful harbour of refuge for crews arriving after dark who prefer not to cross the Hampton Roads shipping lanes.
