Approach and anchoring
Approach from the east through the channel between Le Grand Rouveau lighthouse and the island. Entrance buoyed, depth 3 m maintained in the channel. VHF 9 for the harbour office. Mistral funnels through the pass and kicks up a short sea at the entrance.
Practical
750 berths on pontoons and quays. Fuel berth with diesel and petrol. Water, electricity, toilets, showers and laundry at the Capitainerie. Grocery, bakery and restaurants on the island, nearest supermarket at Le Brusc 0.8 nm east by shuttle ferry.
Ashore
Institut océanographique Paul Ricard and its aquarium on the quay, open to visitors. Coastal path circles the 95 ha island past Fort Saint-Pierre and sheltered coves. Shuttle to Le Brusc runs every 40 minutes in summer.
History
The island was bought by Paul Ricard in 1958. He developed the marina and funded the marine science institute that still runs here, one of the first private marine research centres on the French Mediterranean coast.
