Approach and anchoring

Enter the Belon from the Baie de Pouldu, leaving the Men Du rock to starboard. The bar dries in places at large springs and the flood runs strongly in the narrows. Pick up a visitor buoy off the moorings field, do not anchor in the oyster concessions which are marked by withies.

Practical

Mooring on buoy, no pontoon service. Port du Bélon lies 1.1 NM to the SW with a slipway and the oyster quay. The inner river mooring field at Rivière de Belon is 0.9 NM to the west. Shelter is good from N and S, the estuary funnels W winds.

Ashore

The Belon is the home of the flat oyster Ostrea edulis, farmed here since the late 19th century. Tender landing at the Port du Bélon quay gives access to the oyster houses of Riec-sur-Belon and the GR 34 coastal path which follows both banks of the river.
