Approach and anchoring
Reached from the sea via the Canal de Caen à la mer from Ouistreham, about 13 km north. The canal locks at Ouistreham operate around high water. Transit is straightforward, fixed bridges and swing bridges along the way. Once inside Caen, berth along the Quai Amiral Hamelin on the east bank of the Orne.
Practical
Caen municipal port de plaisance lies 0.3 nm to the north at the Bassin Saint-Pierre and holds the visitor services: water, electricity, sanitary block and capitainerie. The quay at Rives de l'Orne itself has no dedicated marina amenities.
Ashore
Rives de l'Orne shopping centre directly on the quay with 13 restaurants, a cinema and a climbing gym, opened in 2013. Caen city centre and the Abbaye aux Hommes, burial place of William the Conqueror, about 900 m west. Mémorial de Caen, museum of the Second World War, 3 km to the north-west.
